Our Story...

Rock music has always had the power to evoke strong emotions and bring people together in shared experiences. It's no surprise that some have turned to rock music as a means of expressing their spirituality and creating a religious community.

That first paragraph is AI generated, but not bad Terminator, not bad. Actually, Dingir Zu (DZ) came into existence in October 2022 based on a complaint I had to my good friend about there not being a religion based on rock music, as I could "get behind that!". My friend, and DZ co-founder, Kimberly, and I decided to established said religion by applying for Articles of Incorporation to the North Carolina Secretary of State. As the official officers of DZ, we required titles: I am the High Gala (gala is Sumerian for priest) and Kimberly is the Archbishop of Grunge.  To be clear, apart from the Facebook group where we shared our favorite music videos, we had zero plan, other than to laugh at our genius for having done something apparently no one else had thought of before.

People started to slowly joined, and we were pretty satisfied with our creation, that is until a cover band joined the Facebook group, which gave me an idea; we should try to recruit independent bands into group to give them some additional exposure. At the time, I was having a musical re-awaking and discovering all sorts of bands that out there that deserved more attention, so, as any good cult would, we adopted a holy mission: to share the music of the bands (whom we refer to as 'prophets') who join us, which remains our guiding principal today! And join they did! Before we knew it, we were at over 60 bands in the group and we could not have been happier; we were growing at an incredible rate, we started a Spotify playlist that had a song from every band...life just could not have been better, that is until we were approached by an internet radio station!

As part of my advocacy on behalf of the prophets, I would send our playlist to radio stations in an attempt to get them airtime on the station; one station was named Howling Rock Radio, who extended us an invitation to host our own show on their airways, featuring the bands of DZ! While we were never inclined to have our own show, it did make a lot of sense as a medium to 'spread the good word' of all of our amazing bands.
